"The recovery outcome of a TBI patient can be greatly enhanced by Faith, Family, and Friends. Let us help your family to realize that each member in the family has a vital part in the recovery process. We want to share the incredible story of our son's recover and help your family discover how important each family member's role is."
Traumatic Brain Injury, commonly called TBI, has become one of the fastest-growing afflictions in the United States. Currently, there are more than 5.3 million people in the United States who live with a disability because of a TBI. The total number of individuals with a TBI in North Carolina is approximately 180,000. Every 23 seconds a TBI occurs, and in the next year, 1.4 million Americans will sustain a TBI.
Living Waters Ministry, a faith based ministry, has established a new retreat center which will offer TBI survivors and their families a very unique experience; a training and healing experience, in a retreat environment, that focuses on the Family's role in recovery. Dr. Andrew M. Ball, whose practices includes Physical Therapy with TBI survivors says, "Findings suggest that family emotional stressors may be more significant than the physical disabilities in the years following the injury." He goes on to say, "Living Waters holds the potential to become a regional, if not nationally recognized, beacon for families in need of the intangibles that traditional insurance and support services simply can’t provide."
Living Waters Ministry’s new Retreat Facility will serve families and survivors of a TBI. Denise Boggs says, "We are expanding the Ministry that Living Waters offers to include quality retreat services and support to families who have been affected by a Traumatic Brain Injury. We know first-hand how important a strong faith in God and strong family involvement was to our son’s recovery process." The unique approach of working with the whole family is a distinctive and integrative approach that is now being recognized by professionals and has been very successful in the recovery of the Boggs' Son William, who suffered a TBI in 2005. He now plays an active role in the TBI retreats and encourages TBI survivors to never give up.
The retreat is tucked away in a beautiful setting surrounded by green pastures and mountain vistas in Hiddenite, North Carolina. It includes a lodge with 9 bedrooms and 11 baths, a separate office building, 18 acres for hiking, running, relaxation and other outdoor activities. Living Waters Ministry also offers Family Restoration Retreats and Healing the Heart Retreats for individuals that need emotional healing from abuse, abandonment, rejection, betrayal or other painful life experiences. Living Waters Retreats offers a safe and peaceful environment to get away from the pressures of life and a time to rest and be refreshed while working through personal and family issues.
